I had to stop work on my Tartaros Terminators after having problems with the new metallic Games Workshop paints (a problem I still havent resolved!). However with a few hours of spare time over the last few days and a mad urge to do some painting I did manage to get some more work done on one of the Terminators!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE66n5onoHLBOuzhn1V6yJT7h3uHm7DVBmFA-udIFhlFrulCql9wuwEf9lLI57WfkFHtXWYENAIWP5kxQ1XcBF-N9BVWQYi0qDLm2HsOB8adYdpBqy1vxmhPPUisiGqY2DxZBUay4SPvzJ/s1600/Tartaros+WIP+2.1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE66n5onoHLBOuzhn1V6yJT7h3uHm7DVBmFA-udIFhlFrulCql9wuwEf9lLI57WfkFHtXWYENAIWP5kxQ1XcBF-N9BVWQYi0qDLm2HsOB8adYdpBqy1vxmhPPUisiGqY2DxZBUay4SPvzJ/s320/Tartaros+WIP+2.1.JPG" width="305" /></a></div>
<br />
Being an easily distracted person I couldn't help but skip between stages, hence the reason why the armour on the legs has been completed whilst the metal areas on the arms are yet to be tidied up.<br />
<br />
Small posts like this genrally get me motivated to paint so hopefully there will be more updates soon!<br />
<br />
until then!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-4349712080648244982013-02-01T08:14:00.001-08:002013-02-01T08:21:49.472-08:00BASING WITH THE BADLANDS KIT PART TWOWork is progressing on the Tartaros Terminators and the bases are all but done!<br />

<br />
<div>
I used a recipe I found in the latest edition of How To Paint Citadel Miniatures. This was the first time I've had a chance to use the new Citadel texture paints. They require a bit of extra work as I had to apply two layers but I was quite please with the results! </div>
<div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was also really happy with how the skeleton cames out! I was worried about it overpowering the rest of the model but I think it fits in perfectly!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I wasn't so happy with how the Aquila came on the other hand. The idea was that it was supposed to be a gold icon with heavy verdigris but hasn't come out as I'd like. I had to deviate from the recipe I had as I'd missed out a paint in my last order and so I'll probably find myself repainting it at some point. If anyone has a good recipe for painting verdigris let me know!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally you'll have noticed that I havent applied the tufts that came with the basing kit. After test fitting a few I decided I wanted the bases to look a bit more barren and so I'll most likely be using Citadels dead grass instead. Tempted to try my hand at making my own tufts, well see!</div>

Thanks for stopping by, until next time!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So today I'm going to talk about my experience using the Badlands basing kit. I had bought the Warhammer 40000 basing kit several years back but never really used it until now so some parts from that kit will be making an appearance as well.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy23E8nQ2sx6W3WS-QCc46t6zf1H2UhTsz0YASQmY1WeJopyf7tnhcTvvahuSz8g8n_StxSz7UI44jeXuA_LVFWSXfdPMt1RM7vmqXO8rF69LrQB4iJ3TsQNfNhFoE-PWmMvddr-TRn1ry/s1600/Basing+WIP1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy23E8nQ2sx6W3WS-QCc46t6zf1H2UhTsz0YASQmY1WeJopyf7tnhcTvvahuSz8g8n_StxSz7UI44jeXuA_LVFWSXfdPMt1RM7vmqXO8rF69LrQB4iJ3TsQNfNhFoE-PWmMvddr-TRn1ry/s320/Basing+WIP1.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Interestingly the kit I have from a couple of years back has two differences from the new kit. First is the packaging. The Badlands kit comes in a smart snap pack rather than the cardboard pack from yesteryear and the parts are in plastic bags rather than the tubs they used to come in. Secondly...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCt22JP18sWkrzJ9d809GDrhtOrq8W-0lBfYBeT0HzozL0euINLky4UbyIIn6y7aU2BWKOrHEAosxTIK5-eQrIm7NBBNutYB9tHnCOODhCF4jLX5W3maV4mN_eDvuYHRPtSi-vNs8rikv8/s1600/Basing+WIP5.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCt22JP18sWkrzJ9d809GDrhtOrq8W-0lBfYBeT0HzozL0euINLky4UbyIIn6y7aU2BWKOrHEAosxTIK5-eQrIm7NBBNutYB9tHnCOODhCF4jLX5W3maV4mN_eDvuYHRPtSi-vNs8rikv8/s320/Basing+WIP5.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
...and more importantly the resin used in making the parts have changed. The old Resin (Bottom) is much darker and clearly of a different type than what is being used now. I found the old material much harder to work with than the newer one, being harder to sand down and generally being less malleable. Another difference is the smell! Its hard to describe but the older parts have quite a horrible smell to them, especially once you start sanding them. Having looked at the GW site it would seem that the old kit has now been updated to use the newer material, can anyone confirm this?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyways back to the kit itself.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioh5apdhHsUAfvI10-vK58-iJswhyphenhyphendxDLAhPrnFcPRci1tQ-zFmqCCXFksHZX6iKlWh0jAWlXhrwtwoadCgcsuhY7kJGVsrNYFmCtlQgBMvpBUZkj1IOg-GRzogeXWKEPHQqIw_jAvpnPS/s1600/Basing+WIP2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioh5apdhHsUAfvI10-vK58-iJswhyphenhyphendxDLAhPrnFcPRci1tQ-zFmqCCXFksHZX6iKlWh0jAWlXhrwtwoadCgcsuhY7kJGVsrNYFmCtlQgBMvpBUZkj1IOg-GRzogeXWKEPHQqIw_jAvpnPS/s320/Basing+WIP2.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Inside you'll find;</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Some Grass tufts</li>
<li>A bag of small rocks (also different to the Slate found in the older kit which in my view was superior modelling wise)</li>
<li>Two bags of resin components</li>
<li>brass etched Palm leaves and dessert bushes</li>
</ul>
Sadly the brass components of this kit are not of any use to me at the moment so I wont be using them for this project. The rocks in this kit are generally a bit to large to be glued on to infantry sized bases so will need to be broken down with clippers to get the desired size/shape. The slate I had from the old kit was much more useful in this regard as the were generally flatter (which I preferd aesthetically) which also meant they were easier to shape. They do however have a tendency to disintegrate if too much pressure is applied when clipping them. I wont be using the tufts until I have the bases painted so more on them next time.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Onto the Resin components.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIAKEibfjUrreZGODkmr4Cl48qRewBLenYxhx7ynYpSV-NV2u8nJtHQCSMFkeGLd4IorTIPZ9TzMITm6AFxM0d27VuU5j6O7y9vAprg92eQWoNxkoxFi6CF-jGRvyj3BTVjUxWwUT-BykS/s1600/Basing+WIP3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIAKEibfjUrreZGODkmr4Cl48qRewBLenYxhx7ynYpSV-NV2u8nJtHQCSMFkeGLd4IorTIPZ9TzMITm6AFxM0d27VuU5j6O7y9vAprg92eQWoNxkoxFi6CF-jGRvyj3BTVjUxWwUT-BykS/s320/Basing+WIP3.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There is a nice selection of parts in the two bags with both 40K and Fantasy specific parts as well as some generic skull pieces</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ETjp60rKo4ZIMvaN7_D7VVYzYgvtcT5v4PYMFZzm1D3FNPRed9Cdmd9lgI0fO2M0bc1oCV5bDSd81x7ZKR5bDyS6ZOSmbL_3dO_sGOg3Vs5UzfGbTpzC5UaQeZDUgkC_7NnQVuMan2nx/s1600/Basing+WIP4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ETjp60rKo4ZIMvaN7_D7VVYzYgvtcT5v4PYMFZzm1D3FNPRed9Cdmd9lgI0fO2M0bc1oCV5bDSd81x7ZKR5bDyS6ZOSmbL_3dO_sGOg3Vs5UzfGbTpzC5UaQeZDUgkC_7NnQVuMan2nx/s320/Basing+WIP4.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Quite a few of the parts are clearly designed to fit squarely on to certain bases. I'd prefer more smaller parts personally but it shouldn't be too much trouble to trim down the existing bits to get what you need. Also there are a lot of Tomb Kings specific parts with this kit which are no use to me but awesome if you collect them (I might still try and incorporate one of the scarabs onto one of my bases somewhere as they are so cool looking!). It would also appear that most of the parts are from existing plastic sprues and have been assembled on to a base before being cast up and sold. It has ocured to me that I could probably do this myself using parts from other kits. Convenience wise they are still very useful as my bits box is a bit short on anything not Space Marine. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhRmAGnOpnmb51tSyxd0wHKFuakN4ORnQ2xbTOUV-v3NkA5OlEuyYY1csK4xN9cfBVT9YGaMaRETLjwrJhdSC_mfsRTGtjy1t5t3vIIy0rX2BPV7W3bVX8eI8sxBq9jkrypj0Lvn3p7yfE/s1600/Basing+WIP7.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhRmAGnOpnmb51tSyxd0wHKFuakN4ORnQ2xbTOUV-v3NkA5OlEuyYY1csK4xN9cfBVT9YGaMaRETLjwrJhdSC_mfsRTGtjy1t5t3vIIy0rX2BPV7W3bVX8eI8sxBq9jkrypj0Lvn3p7yfE/s320/Basing+WIP7.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When using the resin parts you'll find that it is best to sand the bottom of the part down considerably so as ensure that it will sit flush with the base. I used superglue to secure it to the base before using Brown Stuff around some of the larges edges to blend the part with the base. I used a cocktail stick to texture the brown stuff before finally applying some liquid Green stuff here and there on some of the smaller edges to again help smooth the joint. Once I've painted the base with the new texture paint from Citadel the edges should be hardly noticeable.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3JGxQijQmngk6Z88EcMa50xRnLoZM4IdtpzkaTAjTeZCv5uPcewjUTOost8DRSJeftDxfzW-kjV-5ejWkCOYASbtvgcKZc3h6p43Mvx9SMnOrtbBsEGXh-LzDWK0HubyyO-DVZLSjYuWR/s1600/Basing+WIP6.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3JGxQijQmngk6Z88EcMa50xRnLoZM4IdtpzkaTAjTeZCv5uPcewjUTOost8DRSJeftDxfzW-kjV-5ejWkCOYASbtvgcKZc3h6p43Mvx9SMnOrtbBsEGXh-LzDWK0HubyyO-DVZLSjYuWR/s320/Basing+WIP6.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I couldn't use the Brass details that came with the bad lands kit so grabbed an imperil eagle from the 40k kit instead. I put a blob of Brown stuff on the back of the eagle and pressed it down at an angle so as to get some elevation before applying some more Brown stuff around the edges and over parts of the eagle. I again texture the brown stuff using a cocktail stick. The idea was to make it look as if the icon was only partly sticking out from the dessert floor.</div>

<div>
Here's a picture of the squad wit the bases ready to paint. I haven't added all that many parts yet as I don't want to distract from the models themselves and I'm still gonna need a load more parts for the rest of the army. Next time Ill be painting up the bases aswell as adding the final touches.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Until then!</div>

<br />
Overall the assembly was harder than what I was expecting. I've worked with Forge World before but some of the casting on these guys were alot worse than anything I've built from them before and I'm still gonna have to touch some areas up with modeling putty. However the look of the final unit far outweighs the trouble I had building them. I absolutely love the design of the miniatures and I'm trying to find an excuse to add more to my new army.<br />
<br />
My next purchase will be an airbrush just after Christmas. I want to take my painting up a notch with these guys and hope I can do this amazing kit justice.<br />
<br />
But for now let me finnish by thanking all my followers and readers for the support they have shown me and the blog over the last year, your all awesome and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-1807260245021960952012-12-20T09:27:00.002-08:002012-12-20T09:29:20.203-08:00TARTAROS WIP AND DARK ANGELS REACTIONHeres the fourth Tartaros Terminator.<br />

<br />
The completion of this guy means that I have now officially done more hobby work in the last two weeks than I have done in the last two months! Posting regular like this with smaller progress has motivated me to get the squad done so I think I'll be doing more mini posts like this one in the future!<br />
<br />
DARK ANGEL RELEASES<br />
<br />
Photos of the <a href="http://natfka.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/dark-angels-pics-leaked-codex-and-more.html" target="_blank">new Dark Angels Releases</a> are up on Natfka's Faeit 212 Blog!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This looks like its going to be an awesome release! I'm really hoping that the Dark Talon above will be a available for all Space Marine armies, I know I'd definitely buy one.<br />
<br />
Until next time!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-49825021646781764942012-12-15T10:17:00.000-08:002012-12-15T10:18:51.758-08:00TARTAROS UPDATESo I've assembled another Terminator over the last couple of days to go with the squad. Still hoping to have them all built before Christmas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSW6Hv4L4SdQxMmCIm_A2W4WVfPrEz_X7USp7SLvSC-pgul3dmUAqCFq7ZJxgawWzOEras4VcW02TzLcTbBgwar4MKlvsVnQOy4f71MRUddZ-97xzhInspByxHauSeIUwvcQboX7egE4n-/s1600/Tartaros+WIP+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSW6Hv4L4SdQxMmCIm_A2W4WVfPrEz_X7USp7SLvSC-pgul3dmUAqCFq7ZJxgawWzOEras4VcW02TzLcTbBgwar4MKlvsVnQOy4f71MRUddZ-97xzhInspByxHauSeIUwvcQboX7egE4n-/s320/Tartaros+WIP+3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
...the shoulder pads are still however a massive pain!<br />
<br />
In some related news I saw some pretty awesome Doom Legion Tartaros Terminators in a <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/blog.jsp?pid=6300032-gws" target="_blank">White Dwarf daily post</a>. Does anyone know if the artist has a blog? would love to see more of his army!<br />
<br />
Until next time!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-54651227686856637722012-12-04T09:46:00.001-08:002012-12-04T09:48:48.990-08:00TARTAROS WIP AND SLOW PROGRESSSo since my last post real life has gone and given me a real running kick to the quads! Progress has been torturously slow as I haven't been at home much, let alone had time to work on my hobby and thus I've constructed a grand total of two Terminators since my last post!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL5wzwMzwE2xIFag0AbFLQQc7k8YQ6x66KRxej2kpU_uratDqZRWvhGyrT7yr2cDozOCZ8nR5i4NEI5fDojeY_IOZB1G9vJY-Fd25Ab8j39ADlNlXcDcnO92YmXhOGvcY15Byd2klX6nKv/s1600/Tartaros+WIP+1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL5wzwMzwE2xIFag0AbFLQQc7k8YQ6x66KRxej2kpU_uratDqZRWvhGyrT7yr2cDozOCZ8nR5i4NEI5fDojeY_IOZB1G9vJY-Fd25Ab8j39ADlNlXcDcnO92YmXhOGvcY15Byd2klX6nKv/s320/Tartaros+WIP+1.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Progress has also been hampered as the kit itself is a pain to assemble! The shoulder pads come in two parts and its hard to get them to fit to the arms properly whilst its hard to get the waist attached to the legs correctly and I had to <a href="http://theemperorswrath-snake88.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/modeling-putty-as-adhesive.html" target="_blank">use Brown stuff</a> to get a good enough bond.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_cfCCHD4rVtGfvtpxlH8THFm_tcZApuKGokj7a_baYrQlgg9nkpT8esjqjlMd-5wEn8cw2uYYeDrC0g2RidU4idOu5xcmJCL_vbe646QW7qKyhaLtpHcGFrAFg_bIWF0Hed_XGbbMkDJP/s1600/Tartaros+WIP+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_cfCCHD4rVtGfvtpxlH8THFm_tcZApuKGokj7a_baYrQlgg9nkpT8esjqjlMd-5wEn8cw2uYYeDrC0g2RidU4idOu5xcmJCL_vbe646QW7qKyhaLtpHcGFrAFg_bIWF0Hed_XGbbMkDJP/s320/Tartaros+WIP+2.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
There has also been alot of air bubble to fill in with the models aswell and I've noticed that when washing the kits with water that more tend to appear.<br />
<br />
Aside from the problems with assembly I have to say that the models themselves are drop dead gorgeous! They are still bulky enough to be easily recognisable as terminators yet they have a much more human silhouette to them.<br />
<br />
I had hoped to have these models done by christmas but that is now looking very unlikely. I'm gonna wait to get an airbrush before I paint these guys so am gonna use all my spare time to get the models assembled and ready to paint by the 25th.<br />
<br />
Wish me luck!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-84147112872256549212012-10-28T17:13:00.004-07:002012-10-29T08:19:44.155-07:00PLANS FOR THE FUTURE The blogs been quiet of late and with good reason. What with all the new Horus Heresy releases and rumors of new space marine releases coming along soon, I've decided to start redoing my Dark Wardens army. The majority of it is now finished, however I did start it over two years ago now and the longer I stare at it all the more and more things I spot that I think I could have done better.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Which brings me nicely onto my next mock up picture...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7DgEpyk1xtiTO1reCn0oaFIL2tqkR8Jn8h9CtdXNmuk5wHg_AK6AHNIfqdx5eBCOm92fd_4R_vT421JdeBwlGok2y2qqCSeum7tUoAyebDgZQ-K-ItTJOosJOyunUVtQ3U-JP6rUWwV2c/s1600/photo+(11).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7DgEpyk1xtiTO1reCn0oaFIL2tqkR8Jn8h9CtdXNmuk5wHg_AK6AHNIfqdx5eBCOm92fd_4R_vT421JdeBwlGok2y2qqCSeum7tUoAyebDgZQ-K-ItTJOosJOyunUVtQ3U-JP6rUWwV2c/s320/photo+(11).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is a mock up of the first of a squad of Tartaros Terminators I recently received as a gift for my birthday. I'm going to step my painting up a notch with these guys and the next purchase I'll be making is a proper airbrush and some of the new GW paints aswel as some weathering powders from forge world. The construction of these guys is going slowly at the minute as I await some custom pieces I've ordered (more on that next time!).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I still haven't decided the exact load out for these guys yet. I know I am going to have five of them ride around in a Storm Eagle with a Ragnar Blackmane 'counts as' but I need your help in deciding the best/killiest/fun loadout for them. If anyone has any thoughts could you please leave me a comment as I'm not much of a gamer and need all the help I can get!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Whilst on the topic of Forge World, has anyone else caught the Horus Heresy bug of late?...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3C7GBTa0AAICg3wq2hgSdxPSkLtfeJBFgEIiD5L_qalNZcVHYbO5lZHuUMLlfSTFmWuzyJicSU9WYcFAuVuRSJumXdRYvkNoIHV75cIAvvtEZgj4FKbC78CLAuncS-eORBNuV4OUlOug/s1600/photo+(12).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3C7GBTa0AAICg3wq2hgSdxPSkLtfeJBFgEIiD5L_qalNZcVHYbO5lZHuUMLlfSTFmWuzyJicSU9WYcFAuVuRSJumXdRYvkNoIHV75cIAvvtEZgj4FKbC78CLAuncS-eORBNuV4OUlOug/s320/photo+(12).JPG" width="252" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is the other Wargaming related gift I received and I must say that this is indeed a fantastic book! Is it just me or can Forge World do no wrong at the moment? After furiously reading through the book I've been fighting of the temptation to start a Death Guard Force! I really cant wait for the next book in the series and all of the new resin crack that will surely follow in its wake!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anywho please drop me a comment if you have an idea for the terminator Wolf Guard loadout. until next time! </div>

<br />
It's not often I post about Games Workshop news or rumors but for this video released today by forge world Im making an exception!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/6S0ZaG9xEIA?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
FellBlade's, astartes Jet-bikes, New Terminators and much more all confirmed in this video!<br />
<br />
I've been thinking about redoing my Dark Wardens when/if the new tactical box set is released in 2013 (see the rumour <a href="http://natfka.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/games-workshop-release-plan-in-2013.html" target="_blank">here</a>) but these new models may well mean that I'm going to be collecting a Pre-Heresy army before then!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-31649281460910081962012-08-19T08:18:00.002-07:002012-08-19T08:21:20.168-07:00IV SQUAD So I'm suffering from a bit of painters block at the moment and decided yesterday to display all my models out in front of me to try and kick start my imagination. Whilst doing this it occurred to me that I didn't have a good photo of any of my rank and file Dark Wardens on my blog. With this in mind I printed off a photo background and got a few snaps with my iphone (no Camera at the moment and still haven't got those desk lamps but here goes anyways...).<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDLYa8IV5Q36hf66F0TnIztMdg9E6DqTxBvNAwRW9gQr_dUnC_leqlYO9AjWWU67lZNerpGWkqUR8nHgApHGYsXrHHqGlS5D6AZdigVGLnjpKTMW05udurwaGoHYBisBd17TbIy81Rzhb/s1600/IV+Squad+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDLYa8IV5Q36hf66F0TnIztMdg9E6DqTxBvNAwRW9gQr_dUnC_leqlYO9AjWWU67lZNerpGWkqUR8nHgApHGYsXrHHqGlS5D6AZdigVGLnjpKTMW05udurwaGoHYBisBd17TbIy81Rzhb/s320/IV+Squad+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
These guys were painted over two years ago now (I'm a slow painter!) and as I constantly stare at them I see things I could have done better but I think that there still fairly good for me at least. With the rumours of a new tactical squad getting released next year it made me wonder what to do with my armies current squads, Should I replace them or start a new army? I think that if there different enough I might just paint another company of Dark Wardens and leave these guys as be but time will tell.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #b45f06;">LORD COMMANDER UPDATE:</span> Work hasn't progressed as well on him as I like due to my inability to get the mould right. I'm going to find a more accurate way of measuring them before I give it another go. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hopefully I'll regain my painting bug soon and I have some progress on the army to show guys. As always thanks for reading.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Until next time!</div>

However I really haven't felt the painting urge of late and so I decided to move on to a project which I have been conjuring for several years now...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMPapotRYNnXEOrttpOTmxCnEh8nwzjfFA2rD8Nx3-KCYcYsG6ZxaeTcQ9mQUH2q5ROORmEPCP1rxQMlSZTS9IcNPU0ik5qQp2Q1wgF9QBSOu6-8icTPrzUsbjWG6np0APkMswk5ifYXGX/s1600/Lord+Commander+WIP1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMPapotRYNnXEOrttpOTmxCnEh8nwzjfFA2rD8Nx3-KCYcYsG6ZxaeTcQ9mQUH2q5ROORmEPCP1rxQMlSZTS9IcNPU0ik5qQp2Q1wgF9QBSOu6-8icTPrzUsbjWG6np0APkMswk5ifYXGX/s320/Lord+Commander+WIP1.JPG" width="226" /></a></div>
<br />
I present a very early WIP of Lord Commander Bron Sagar, Chapter Master of the Dark Wardens. He is for now a mock up of what I intend but does give a pretty good idea of what I hope he will turn out like. You will notice that the lower half of the body is a (very bad) resin cast of a 2005 GamesDay space Marine model.<br />
<br />
NOTE: Now making casts of a model like this lies within the grey area of legality and so it is worth me mentioning here that I have no intention of ever selling this model and would point out that this conversion would have been very hard/impossible to do using the metal miniature itself and thus is the reason why I cast it up as a resin piece. In other words, please don't sue me GW (or condemn me to death for Techno-heresy!).<br />
<br />
This is my first venture into resin casting and I was very pleased with the results considering that this was my first go and I never intended it to be perfect. I had initially try'd to sculpt a pair of walking legs earlier to get the same pose but I could never have hoped to attain the same level of detail. The torso is the MK8 torso from the tactical squad set which has had some details carefully carved away and replace with Rivets to represent a row of studs on the gorget and and shield on his chest respectively.<br />
<br />
Next step now is refining the casting process and getting a usable lower half to attach to the torso.<br />
<br />
Until next time!<br />

The photos are not the clearest but should give you a general idea.<br />
<br />
NOTE: Most of us know that painting on many thin layers is better than a few thick layers. I have found that this is essential when working with gold paints (at least with the old Games Workshop paint range). The only steps that did not involve several thin layers were the final line highlighting stages.<br />
<br />
<u>Step One</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
Undercoat the model with Chaos Black spray paint. Once this has dried use a large brush to apply a thin layer of chaos black paint to ensure a smooth and consistent coverage.<br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<u>Step Two</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBQi2EFUNWWBE1xaB-_bW4XFrECNGF0SXK3yRB-rZOOjCddZ84bzlIx3UsY6tS4LR1MzKWckbUxrb03yI2bLTIYS3D5cSJGPwZKDT0wZuKuIa6Ac2Nd4JA0sCq6rDEDdOQuF3LX9oaQVaH/s1600/Gold+Tutorial+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBQi2EFUNWWBE1xaB-_bW4XFrECNGF0SXK3yRB-rZOOjCddZ84bzlIx3UsY6tS4LR1MzKWckbUxrb03yI2bLTIYS3D5cSJGPwZKDT0wZuKuIa6Ac2Nd4JA0sCq6rDEDdOQuF3LX9oaQVaH/s320/Gold+Tutorial+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<u><br /></u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
For the Basecoat use a 50/50 mix of Scorched brown and Shinning Gold. I found that I had to paint three to four layers using Eavy Metal Medium as a thinner<br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<u>Step Three</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTXMYVhE-eemKln6oqP2pgUSatBtDCPVta6qkki5TOYBmzmtABQWOsuQ2K426ELMaz1LZECmpMKItDCNENYvo_RdeCgM0EsuHKgvvpWk5-MIwkyoi2eogTtUiSzBsxcpkKGrAe_wl5fqrC/s1600/Gold+Tutorial+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTXMYVhE-eemKln6oqP2pgUSatBtDCPVta6qkki5TOYBmzmtABQWOsuQ2K426ELMaz1LZECmpMKItDCNENYvo_RdeCgM0EsuHKgvvpWk5-MIwkyoi2eogTtUiSzBsxcpkKGrAe_wl5fqrC/s320/Gold+Tutorial+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<u><br /></u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
Next, apply a slightly thinned wash of Devlan Mud. I applied a second wash to the deeper parts of the model.<br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<u>Step Four</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
Reapply the 50/50 Scorched Brown and Shinning Gold Mix form step two, making sure to leave some of the last step showing through in the more recessed areas.<br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<u>Step Five</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNzcGqFw0G_7oeCVbvn2YkFdRbAT_CIXgTx4ajXchl4vCz325DdUcvjAXpyWT5usfeLdIeCyFvNxqSiHgysMV6joHdeurr5PZS622aaf-6FlZW-STRzsuU0cTPgYGUHlpmwszokQiwlVm0/s1600/Gold+Tutorial+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNzcGqFw0G_7oeCVbvn2YkFdRbAT_CIXgTx4ajXchl4vCz325DdUcvjAXpyWT5usfeLdIeCyFvNxqSiHgysMV6joHdeurr5PZS622aaf-6FlZW-STRzsuU0cTPgYGUHlpmwszokQiwlVm0/s320/Gold+Tutorial+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<u><br /></u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
Apply a layer of shinning Gold over the last layer again leaving some of the previous stage showing through in the recesses. This is the most visible layer and will take around three to four thin layers to get a good coverage.<br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<u>Step Six</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgoi7ql1Cpew5EsE-awUbJNBw8XVjFWNPZEtQufQcSyVAMT7DQrVyA5svXlsD_IVyASOxOOJzzMC23tpmTAlqWQOJhAbdxjRnwNC3KVVACL5rX7o4mOV4nc8nWirPVV95C3BIakb2t2xBu/s1600/Gold+Tutorial+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgoi7ql1Cpew5EsE-awUbJNBw8XVjFWNPZEtQufQcSyVAMT7DQrVyA5svXlsD_IVyASOxOOJzzMC23tpmTAlqWQOJhAbdxjRnwNC3KVVACL5rX7o4mOV4nc8nWirPVV95C3BIakb2t2xBu/s320/Gold+Tutorial+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<u><br /></u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
For the first highlight stage use a mix of approximately 60/40 Shinning Gold to Mithril Silver. Apply as a line highlight to all of the edges of the model.<br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<u>Step Seven</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3YG7JUSyfJGwFjh3vMuSmBbwP4iTN-HfCukExxgygy0wFxg7dcgEWfeAEeEz5U-V-S24aqRL-BnjPiO_D8Jh6ckDF6y0FZ8HGDRz12BpbfFl_CZTBaCvAYm1uqh1Fm8w_Do-PDa34e06p/s1600/Gold+Tutorial+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3YG7JUSyfJGwFjh3vMuSmBbwP4iTN-HfCukExxgygy0wFxg7dcgEWfeAEeEz5U-V-S24aqRL-BnjPiO_D8Jh6ckDF6y0FZ8HGDRz12BpbfFl_CZTBaCvAYm1uqh1Fm8w_Do-PDa34e06p/s320/Gold+Tutorial+5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<u><br /></u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
Finally use Mithril Silver as a line highlight over the previous stage on areas which would catch the most light. Make sure not to overdo this stage as too much Mithril silver will ruin the effect. I often applied the Mithril Silver as a small 'dot' rather than paint it as a line.<br />
<br />
<u>Finished</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />

<br />Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-81555438814525430922012-06-25T11:36:00.001-07:002012-06-25T11:37:18.149-07:00PONDERING THE NEW ALLIES RULE AND 'COUNTS AS'...No updates today, just something I've been pondering after reading the <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/blog.jsp?pid=2800002-gws" target="_blank">What's New Today</a> blog over at Games Workshop.<br />
<br />
So the post talks about the new allies rules and Flyers and notes that you can now take the Storm Talon as a unit in your Dark Angels, Space Wolves and Black Templars army using the allies rule. This is nice and all but made me think about the implications on counts as armies.<br />
<br />
NOTE: Now before I go any further I should point out that I've not played a game of 40K in a good few years. However I've still used the Space Wolves army list with my Dark Wardens as I feel that they are closer in character to them than the other codex's available.<br />
<br />
The Allies rule will allow me to take units unique to one Space Marine army and use them with another Chapters codex. This means that a Dark Angels army can now legally take squads of Grey Hunters using the new rules, or a Black Templar army can take a pack of Fenrisian Wolves ect.<br />
<br />
But what if I collected a Blood Angels army and included a squad of Grey Hunters but instead of painting them up as Space Wolves I painted them red instead? I am a Painter and collector before I'm a gamer so I can see how in friendly games I may well be able to use different units from different codex's to create an army more reflective of the fluff for a DIY chapter but in more serious games will it really be fair to use the allies rules to make one Space Marine army?<br />
<br />
I can see how on the one these rules will help me create a fluffy Space Marine army but is it really fair from a gamers perspective? I'm not bashing the new rules at all, I think there awesome! but will using the allies rules with counts as be a step to far?<br />
<br />
Anyways, normal updates will resume soon. Hope everyone is having fun with the new 40K and as always thanks for reading!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-38834624284194755002012-06-13T13:51:00.001-07:002012-06-13T13:57:14.306-07:00MODELING PUTTY AS AN ADHESIVEWell todays post was going to be a general update post. I'd got some snaps with my Nikon of my entire army as it stands but due to a shadow in the warp I've been unable to transfer them over to my laptop. So instead I grabbed my trusty I-phone and got a snap of my Land Raider.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLJWGf77u4wR4v0S0N2IwZEm76B3MjFHockfmuvmBYWo2PjdRsOK3EJuZVx_NO_T0mX0-DYntLCZMeRvKA67fetELjEZ8iEi7L2jLuaG1vGQ_UwBxzS9z8kmIUHhT_w_6fHwcWx51GygU4/s1600/photo+(6).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLJWGf77u4wR4v0S0N2IwZEm76B3MjFHockfmuvmBYWo2PjdRsOK3EJuZVx_NO_T0mX0-DYntLCZMeRvKA67fetELjEZ8iEi7L2jLuaG1vGQ_UwBxzS9z8kmIUHhT_w_6fHwcWx51GygU4/s320/photo+(6).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the first finished picture I have of this beast (once I have the funds for some more desk lamps I'll post some proper pictures of it). Unfortunately I had a problem. The side sponson had fallen off several times, no matter how much glue I used. I was also trying to avoid adding glue to the very edge of the sponson as I did not want to get any on what I had painted so far. Enter the Brown Stuff!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ-XTtW-HMxwfjJDdhp2x6hikc07lD4g78zSoHSSjQNK6JkX6sOrsW-soDLKrQyxZfshNXJwQFbdJLpp__asutiIW23tGSdBkEBqk-vztLZFGNrf0z6qtEOkVUWzKi5LNlK0llTdZQbw5b/s1600/photo+(7).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ-XTtW-HMxwfjJDdhp2x6hikc07lD4g78zSoHSSjQNK6JkX6sOrsW-soDLKrQyxZfshNXJwQFbdJLpp__asutiIW23tGSdBkEBqk-vztLZFGNrf0z6qtEOkVUWzKi5LNlK0llTdZQbw5b/s320/photo+(7).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a modeling putty very similar to Green stuff (albeit with a slightly funnier name). Just like Green stuff it can be sculpted to create detail or entire models. Brown Stuff dries harder than Green Stuff and sculptors will often use it to sculpt hard edges such as armour plating ect. and reserve Green stuff for organic things like fur and skin. The two can even be mixed together. However many people often overlook the fact that modeling putty can be used as an adhesive.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4luuWtmSztSFJZn-IevBPIp7-Skkrns3krVid4Ac2fiDAD_MKFJfZuVveChEWkYYRzjmd1UwOLZPDtaJLpLvL1v9kmC152Qy7W2pTPGhyFTiMHxrkG25RZVgbOhPRM5wz-MxH3okRljtD/s1600/photo+(8).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4luuWtmSztSFJZn-IevBPIp7-Skkrns3krVid4Ac2fiDAD_MKFJfZuVveChEWkYYRzjmd1UwOLZPDtaJLpLvL1v9kmC152Qy7W2pTPGhyFTiMHxrkG25RZVgbOhPRM5wz-MxH3okRljtD/s320/photo+(8).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Granted, it uses are limited but if you are struggling with a large surface area where the the parts are not quite close enough together then you may well want to consider it. I wouldn't use it on smaller models with the exception of pinning where again it it useful if the pin is preventing the model from fitting together properly. <br />
<br />
The bond on my Land Raider is now rock solid and much stronger than the glue I was using. You can use Green Stuff to do the same thing but Brown Stuff is probably slightly better and I went with it as I have both! I bought all of my sculpting gear from <a href="http://www.heresyminiatures.com/shop/" target="_blank">Heresy Miniatures</a> a couple of years ago. <br />
<br />
I hope people find this post useful. As soon as funds are available I'll being buying more desk lamps and this will hopefully mean alot more posts!<br />
<br />
Until next time!<br />

<br />
There are only a few small details left to finnish on the rest of the squad excluding the banner (Which will likely be a small project in itself!). Work on the unit has been delayed recently due to a combination of a hectic work week, a lack of supplies and finally a bout of the dreaded man-flu, so virulent that Nurgle himself shed a tear of joy!<br />
<br />
As always thanks for reading. Until next time!<br />

Oh and incase you haven't seen it already check out the how to sculpt series by Mr Pink <a href="http://modernsynthesist.blogspot.ca/search/label/How%20To%20Sculpt" target="_blank">Here</a>. Its awesome!<br />

Mostly these have been cosmetic but there are some new features that I would like to explain.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Firstly and most importantly you may have seen the download tab in the top right hand collum.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjolZ-Rne1UmQmU17TL-xJvTpXsiz4LkinvKqN5du8GkQW9qOCZALHHq-RupYclld7pMSctuEtm2zUJIszSQZWp1ouiRkaaaETGop4ilVen58B3PceSZPHDsjgEmtHT_AInqQbBcj7CHh0G/s1600/DOWNLOADS+THUMBNAIL.jpg" /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
Clicking on it will lead you to a stand alone page with several useful items available for download. The first item is a simple photo background. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXfNnEYCrBoFrUyxb1sA5UlXQ-ZFm7tYficvUFGBdvL4SDGoRbuml6gw2_R3YKO4l8NVw-Zz3sagBB6eFAUyLuXWcObRBoMFu1ncdEwc1j301WC_RxNm-qP2x1dJGKWJRnItu6s9Kx5Tsa/s1600/Photo+Background+Image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXfNnEYCrBoFrUyxb1sA5UlXQ-ZFm7tYficvUFGBdvL4SDGoRbuml6gw2_R3YKO4l8NVw-Zz3sagBB6eFAUyLuXWcObRBoMFu1ncdEwc1j301WC_RxNm-qP2x1dJGKWJRnItu6s9Kx5Tsa/s320/Photo+Background+Image.jpg" width="226" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It seems I am forever cursed to take bad photos! In my seemingly never ending quest for the perfect image I have created the above photo background. These are the sort of thing that Games workshop uses when they take photos of their models. They are quite easy to create on Microsoft word but are a bit more difficult for us Mac users to obtain!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There is also a new Label feature to the right which should help everyone find what they are looking for.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As this blog grows I am going to add more tabs including a tutorial one which leads us nicely onto...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
GOLD TUTORIAL UPDATE: Im sorry guys, I tried to make one but the heads I am painting are just too small for my iPhone. All is not lost however! I have a Venerable Dreadnought due to be painted up over the next couple of months which will feature the same gold recipe. Hopefully by the time I come to do it I will have mastered my Nikon camera and Ill be able to do a proper tutorial.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thank you for reading guys and as always your feed back is appreciated so please let me know what you think!</div>
<div>

I finished painting the Black on the armour and Stormbolters and also completed the bases. The black took me a long time to do but isn't very evident in this picture as most of the black armour is on the back! At the moment I'm working on the Power weapons and am working out a decent recipe. I started work on the helmets aswell but I'm still thinking over how I'm going to do the marble on the banner pole.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNTPgFEn29vRnA4PAR-HkjMzwbxuF_HpJhOLEDe9nbeMkgY8eMLf8NqRBXLEz-j11dePihFFrcVKqn72j2eT0bPrrekhgtU1bIjBFGvbh1DNpaJkeh-aBKB_8A08rAp-drH2sIwV_qrp00/s1600/Honour+Guard+WIP4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNTPgFEn29vRnA4PAR-HkjMzwbxuF_HpJhOLEDe9nbeMkgY8eMLf8NqRBXLEz-j11dePihFFrcVKqn72j2eT0bPrrekhgtU1bIjBFGvbh1DNpaJkeh-aBKB_8A08rAp-drH2sIwV_qrp00/s320/Honour+Guard+WIP4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
As you can see all of the Gold and most of the other details are done. I've still got to highlight the black and finish other things like the power weapons and bases but all in all I'm quite happy with how these guys are turning out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijncufkAo-BI1tGKv8UnAAzxZrSo0uLud-6uii5XPwu263MWpyXFhznS-juAFRb-lV8x1j_H1_rG_2Jso77rSt7Tuvsa1YLxjcFFkR2Bb4nN8F3lDkEzioIFMkckJU00JV2427gVqP2cAV/s1600/Honour+Guard+WIP5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijncufkAo-BI1tGKv8UnAAzxZrSo0uLud-6uii5XPwu263MWpyXFhznS-juAFRb-lV8x1j_H1_rG_2Jso77rSt7Tuvsa1YLxjcFFkR2Bb4nN8F3lDkEzioIFMkckJU00JV2427gVqP2cAV/s320/Honour+Guard+WIP5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I also managed to snap a photo of the Scabbard I made from plasticard and rivets (the Fabricator General would be proud!). My i-phone's camera was insufficient to capture it in proper detail but none the less I'm still quite chuffed with it!<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading, until next time!<br />
<br />
P.S. Some of the more eagle eyed of you will have noticed that the banner pole is painted a dark green. Im hoping to paint a marble effect on it and wondered if anyone has any tutorials on how they would do it? I've done one before but want to see if there are better ways out there!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-36336460626817989572012-04-11T09:49:00.002-07:002012-04-25T11:00:34.848-07:00HONOUR GUARD WIPSo heres a quick update on the Honour Guard unit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicFhoe51R1t2V1rr6gte2O23NyRJiKmCojdDHLzRN6smYDLOSdYeatakuZB3jFGo817hDqSWNdq8dc4z9IMETG-TNvEpBD1jw6Gkn_5E6N2_kNjWxPJqPrIHHX4FnjYXYc3oXmPIPEb4XT/s1600/Honour+Guard+WIP3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicFhoe51R1t2V1rr6gte2O23NyRJiKmCojdDHLzRN6smYDLOSdYeatakuZB3jFGo817hDqSWNdq8dc4z9IMETG-TNvEpBD1jw6Gkn_5E6N2_kNjWxPJqPrIHHX4FnjYXYc3oXmPIPEb4XT/s320/Honour+Guard+WIP3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I haven't applied the Gold very neatly in this ruff and ready picture so the black areas are gonna need a repaint but you can get the idea of the overall color scheme of these models.<br />
<br />
The marine to the far left has had all the highlights applied whereas the rest have only had the first highlights done. I tryd applying the gold in several thin layers to get a better effect with mixed results ( the last two were better than the first two). I'm painting the heads separately and I think that ill take some photos of each individual step and make a tutorial on how its done.<br />
<br />
So what do you think? As always your comments are appreciated!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-64503175403336855002012-03-29T17:07:00.002-07:002012-04-18T11:36:57.005-07:00STORM EAGLE, REAL OR FAKE?Well I'm interrupting our usual schedule to bring you pictures of a supposed Storm Eagle by Forge World.<br />
<br />

Awesome right? or is it? Some people have already pointed out that this comes suspiciously near to april 1st and we all know how games workshop love their april fools pranks (I'm sure we have all had a giggle at how to roll Citadel Dice!). That being said it is also possible that this is a real kit! I have to say that at the least it is a very high quality fake. What do you guys think?<br />
<br />
LAND RAIDER UPDATE:<br />
<br />
I feel the need to apologize for the lack of Land Raider pictures. The truth is is that I've been rushed of my feet lately as I'm having to attend several weeks of courses in order to be trained for a new job (This and the fact that I'll probably have to find a new home soon are also the reason for my gloomy february post which again I need to apologies for!). However I have a course and work free slot coming up in just over a weeks time where Im hoping to give you guys a proper post.<br />
<br />
As always thanks for reading!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-46384019431047801382012-03-05T00:24:00.000-08:002012-04-25T11:00:34.852-07:00HONOUR GUARD WIPI was able to get more work done this week than I had been expecting. I had two different Bitz orders arrive meaning I could finish the Land Raider (which will be getting its own post in the coming weeks) and also finish making my Honor Guard unit which will be played using the Wolf Guard rules.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWneJ4-zPMYsoEb1TTu_eTkqGI0n-b4dVhEXtDTjuDyPZ6wzb4LmFNu729I4MG7vNbewgSRFY7ngcoRZo9sO9MPOCiBdbNT0RHDeeLWbdp7zeGrxlSH7WZAnmceL3_kmqZKuCmapt4V93i/s1600/Honor+Guard+WIP1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWneJ4-zPMYsoEb1TTu_eTkqGI0n-b4dVhEXtDTjuDyPZ6wzb4LmFNu729I4MG7vNbewgSRFY7ngcoRZo9sO9MPOCiBdbNT0RHDeeLWbdp7zeGrxlSH7WZAnmceL3_kmqZKuCmapt4V93i/s320/Honor+Guard+WIP1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I haven't got a name for the unit yet though the fluff is that each marine represents one of the eight companies and act as an envoy and champion for their respective Captains as well as a bodyguard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLIkhJ72uOh1WilE9n_ReCaw-o407VDMcOa1zarWAzLJflOnqQluNy7zLxbkSpqXCKQpvOFtejtkmMbk6XCFQb9M_yqVsPAqbS_uPeYW_9gHG5RUK7p9EZvVGv5hnp02JyqvXq37FEIpIQ/s1600/Honor+Guard+WIP2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLIkhJ72uOh1WilE9n_ReCaw-o407VDMcOa1zarWAzLJflOnqQluNy7zLxbkSpqXCKQpvOFtejtkmMbk6XCFQb9M_yqVsPAqbS_uPeYW_9gHG5RUK7p9EZvVGv5hnp02JyqvXq37FEIpIQ/s320/Honor+Guard+WIP2.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><br />
They all wear a highly modified suit of MKIII armour and each wield a Storm Bolter and Power Weapon (or Relic Blade depending on points) with the exception of one who has a combi-flamer. One will also carry the Chapter Standard. I plan on painting most of their armour gold which should make them look suitably regal.<br />
<br />
I'm also starting to get the hang of my camera and only need to sort out some 'shiny' issues when I take photos of my models. I would appreciate any advice if any of you guys know how to fix the problem as I really want to get some high quality pictures of the rest of army.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading everyone, until next time!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301332682259597128.post-49014412024108890812012-02-19T16:20:00.002-08:002012-03-04T19:46:54.355-08:00REAL LIFE REARS ITS UGLY HEAD!Well I should explain that the lack of progress on my Land Raider is due to the fact I'm waiting on a bitz order from GW which is part of a advanced order so has not been dispatched yet.<br />
<br />
There are however some real life issues which have meant that I've not been inspired (or had the time!) to paint recently and in all honestly I'm not sure when I'm going to able to get things back on track.<br />
<br />
However I don't want to depress you guys with my problems, needless to say I will be continuing with this blog. Hopefully Ill have finished land Raider pictures up by next month and I can get things back to normal!Snake88http://www.blogger.com/profile/08022539091197757651noreply@blogger.com0
