Hey all! I had to stop work on my Tartaros Terminators after having problems with the new metallic Games Workshop paints (a problem I still havent resolved!). However with a few hours of spare time over the last few days and a mad urge to do some painting I did manage to get some more work done on one of the Terminators!
Being an easily distracted person I couldn't help but skip between stages, hence the reason why the armour on the legs has been completed whilst the metal areas on the arms are yet to be tidied up.
Small posts like this genrally get me motivated to paint so hopefully there will be more updates soon!
until then!

BASING WITH THE BADLANDS KIT PART TWO
Work is progressing on the Tartaros Terminators and the bases are all but done!
I used a recipe I found in the latest edition of How To Paint Citadel Miniatures. This was the first time I've had a chance to use the new Citadel texture paints. They require a bit of extra work as I had to apply two layers but I was quite please with the results!
I was also really happy with how the skeleton cames out! I was worried about it overpowering the rest of the model but I think it fits in perfectly!
I wasn't so happy with how the Aquila came on the other hand. The idea was that it was supposed to be a gold icon with heavy verdigris but hasn't come out as I'd like. I had to deviate from the recipe I had as I'd missed out a paint in my last order and so I'll probably find myself repainting it at some point. If anyone has a good recipe for painting verdigris let me know!
Finally you'll have noticed that I havent applied the tufts that came with the basing kit. After test fitting a few I decided I wanted the bases to look a bit more barren and so I'll most likely be using Citadels dead grass instead. Tempted to try my hand at making my own tufts, well see!
Thanks for stopping by, until next time!

TARTAROS WIP AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
Well, I did it! the last Terminator is done and now the whole squad is waiting for paint.
...and a group shot.
Overall the assembly was harder than what I was expecting. I've worked with Forge World before but some of the casting on these guys were alot worse than anything I've built from them before and I'm still gonna have to touch some areas up with modeling putty. However the look of the final unit far outweighs the trouble I had building them. I absolutely love the design of the miniatures and I'm trying to find an excuse to add more to my new army.
My next purchase will be an airbrush just after Christmas. I want to take my painting up a notch with these guys and hope I can do this amazing kit justice.
But for now let me finnish by thanking all my followers and readers for the support they have shown me and the blog over the last year, your all awesome and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

TARTAROS WIP AND DARK ANGELS REACTION
Heres the fourth Tartaros Terminator.
The completion of this guy means that I have now officially done more hobby work in the last two weeks than I have done in the last two months! Posting regular like this with smaller progress has motivated me to get the squad done so I think I'll be doing more mini posts like this one in the future!
DARK ANGEL RELEASES
Photos of the new Dark Angels Releases are up on Natfka's Faeit 212 Blog!
This looks like its going to be an awesome release! I'm really hoping that the Dark Talon above will be a available for all Space Marine armies, I know I'd definitely buy one.
Until next time!

TARTAROS UPDATE
So I've assembled another Terminator over the last couple of days to go with the squad. Still hoping to have them all built before Christmas.
...the shoulder pads are still however a massive pain!
In some related news I saw some pretty awesome Doom Legion Tartaros Terminators in a White Dwarf daily post. Does anyone know if the artist has a blog? would love to see more of his army!
Until next time!

TARTAROS WIP AND SLOW PROGRESS
So since my last post real life has gone and given me a real running kick to the quads! Progress has been torturously slow as I haven't been at home much, let alone had time to work on my hobby and thus I've constructed a grand total of two Terminators since my last post!
Progress has also been hampered as the kit itself is a pain to assemble! The shoulder pads come in two parts and its hard to get them to fit to the arms properly whilst its hard to get the waist attached to the legs correctly and I had to use Brown stuff to get a good enough bond.
There has also been alot of air bubble to fill in with the models aswell and I've noticed that when washing the kits with water that more tend to appear.
Aside from the problems with assembly I have to say that the models themselves are drop dead gorgeous! They are still bulky enough to be easily recognisable as terminators yet they have a much more human silhouette to them.
I had hoped to have these models done by christmas but that is now looking very unlikely. I'm gonna wait to get an airbrush before I paint these guys so am gonna use all my spare time to get the models assembled and ready to paint by the 25th.
Wish me luck!

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
The blogs been quiet of late and with good reason. What with all the new Horus Heresy releases and rumors of new space marine releases coming along soon, I've decided to start redoing my Dark Wardens army. The majority of it is now finished, however I did start it over two years ago now and the longer I stare at it all the more and more things I spot that I think I could have done better.
Which brings me nicely onto my next mock up picture...
Here is a mock up of the first of a squad of Tartaros Terminators I recently received as a gift for my birthday. I'm going to step my painting up a notch with these guys and the next purchase I'll be making is a proper airbrush and some of the new GW paints aswel as some weathering powders from forge world. The construction of these guys is going slowly at the minute as I await some custom pieces I've ordered (more on that next time!).
I still haven't decided the exact load out for these guys yet. I know I am going to have five of them ride around in a Storm Eagle with a Ragnar Blackmane 'counts as' but I need your help in deciding the best/killiest/fun loadout for them. If anyone has any thoughts could you please leave me a comment as I'm not much of a gamer and need all the help I can get!
Whilst on the topic of Forge World, has anyone else caught the Horus Heresy bug of late?...
This is the other Wargaming related gift I received and I must say that this is indeed a fantastic book! Is it just me or can Forge World do no wrong at the moment? After furiously reading through the book I've been fighting of the temptation to start a Death Guard Force! I really cant wait for the next book in the series and all of the new resin crack that will surely follow in its wake!
Anywho please drop me a comment if you have an idea for the terminator Wolf Guard loadout. until next time!

GOLD TUTORIAL
Well I managed to get some progress done on the Honour Guard squad (or the Magnate Guard as I will be calling them) and was able to get enough WIP shots to throw together a tutorial! The photos are not the clearest but should give you a general idea.
NOTE: Most of us know that painting on many thin layers is better than a few thick layers. I have found that this is essential when working with gold paints (at least with the old Games Workshop paint range). The only steps that did not involve several thin layers were the final line highlighting stages.
Step One
Undercoat the model with Chaos Black spray paint. Once this has dried use a large brush to apply a thin layer of chaos black paint to ensure a smooth and consistent coverage.
Step Two
For the Basecoat use a 50/50 mix of Scorched brown and Shinning Gold. I found that I had to paint three to four layers using Eavy Metal Medium as a thinner
Step Three
Next, apply a slightly thinned wash of Devlan Mud. I applied a second wash to the deeper parts of the model.
Step Four
Reapply the 50/50 Scorched Brown and Shinning Gold Mix form step two, making sure to leave some of the last step showing through in the more recessed areas.
Step Five
Apply a layer of shinning Gold over the last layer again leaving some of the previous stage showing through in the recesses. This is the most visible layer and will take around three to four thin layers to get a good coverage.
Step Six
For the first highlight stage use a mix of approximately 60/40 Shinning Gold to Mithril Silver. Apply as a line highlight to all of the edges of the model.
Step Seven
Finally use Mithril Silver as a line highlight over the previous stage on areas which would catch the most light. Make sure not to overdo this stage as too much Mithril silver will ruin the effect. I often applied the Mithril Silver as a small 'dot' rather than paint it as a line.
Finished
Put it altogether and your done! Thanks to Rev over at Stahlys Tale of Painters whose recipe I adapted.
This tutorial was made using the old GW paints but should not be to hard to translate over in to other ranges.
Until next time!

HONOUR GUARD WIP
Below is a (Blurry) Picture of a 99% complete Honour Guard Marine.
There are only a few small details left to finnish on the rest of the squad excluding the banner (Which will likely be a small project in itself!). Work on the unit has been delayed recently due to a combination of a hectic work week, a lack of supplies and finally a bout of the dreaded man-flu, so virulent that Nurgle himself shed a tear of joy!
As always thanks for reading. Until next time!
Oh and incase you haven't seen it already check out the how to sculpt series by Mr Pink Here. Its awesome!

HONOUR GUARD WIP
Here is a tiny update on the Honour Guard unit.
I finished painting the Black on the armour and Stormbolters and also completed the bases. The black took me a long time to do but isn't very evident in this picture as most of the black armour is on the back! At the moment I'm working on the Power weapons and am working out a decent recipe. I started work on the helmets aswell but I'm still thinking over how I'm going to do the marble on the banner pole.
Until next time!

HONOUR GUARD WIP
Here are some WIP photos of where I'm up to on the Honour Guard!
As you can see all of the Gold and most of the other details are done. I've still got to highlight the black and finish other things like the power weapons and bases but all in all I'm quite happy with how these guys are turning out.
I also managed to snap a photo of the Scabbard I made from plasticard and rivets (the Fabricator General would be proud!). My i-phone's camera was insufficient to capture it in proper detail but none the less I'm still quite chuffed with it!
Thanks for reading, until next time!
P.S. Some of the more eagle eyed of you will have noticed that the banner pole is painted a dark green. Im hoping to paint a marble effect on it and wondered if anyone has any tutorials on how they would do it? I've done one before but want to see if there are better ways out there!

HONOUR GUARD WIP
So heres a quick update on the Honour Guard unit.
I haven't applied the Gold very neatly in this ruff and ready picture so the black areas are gonna need a repaint but you can get the idea of the overall color scheme of these models.
The marine to the far left has had all the highlights applied whereas the rest have only had the first highlights done. I tryd applying the gold in several thin layers to get a better effect with mixed results ( the last two were better than the first two). I'm painting the heads separately and I think that ill take some photos of each individual step and make a tutorial on how its done.
So what do you think? As always your comments are appreciated!

HONOUR GUARD WIP
I was able to get more work done this week than I had been expecting. I had two different Bitz orders arrive meaning I could finish the Land Raider (which will be getting its own post in the coming weeks) and also finish making my Honor Guard unit which will be played using the Wolf Guard rules.
I haven't got a name for the unit yet though the fluff is that each marine represents one of the eight companies and act as an envoy and champion for their respective Captains as well as a bodyguard.
They all wear a highly modified suit of MKIII armour and each wield a Storm Bolter and Power Weapon (or Relic Blade depending on points) with the exception of one who has a combi-flamer. One will also carry the Chapter Standard. I plan on painting most of their armour gold which should make them look suitably regal.
I'm also starting to get the hang of my camera and only need to sort out some 'shiny' issues when I take photos of my models. I would appreciate any advice if any of you guys know how to fix the problem as I really want to get some high quality pictures of the rest of army.
Thanks for reading everyone, until next time!
